Here are some key surgical procedures that our Fishers endodontist offers.
Apicoectomy
When the tip of your tooth root becomes infected and inflamed, it may be necessary to access it through the gum tissue. Dr. Stuart makes this procedure as non-invasive as possible by using microscopic dentistry to make a small incision and remove the infected tissue.
Much like a conventional root canal, the tooth is sealed and the entire procedure is performed with local anesthesia.
Check out our step-by-step guide to this procedure.
If you have received a root canal and it has not healed correctly, then all is not lost. Endodontic retreatment can repair issues that are present due to an undiscovered infection or tooth fracture.
Dr. Stuart performs this microscopic treatment by numbing the area and making a small opening in the gum. She then removes the previous root canal materials and assesses for any new infection.
Once all the bacteria have been removed, and the area is cleaned. Our endodontist in Fishers, IN…Learn more about our dentist…, then shapes the canals, fills the roots with a composite material, and replaces the crown (as necessary).

Resorption refers to the wearing away of a tooth’s structure. This can be due to past dental trauma, infection, or for no reason at all. Thanks to our modern 3D imaging, we can diagnose resorption before it becomes too severe. Please note, if this issue is left untreated, it could result in tooth loss.
Resorption can affect three main areas:
- The area where your tooth meets your gum
- The inner part of your tooth, which can inflame the nerves and dissolve the tooth from the inside out
- Your tooth roots
The good news is that all three types can be corrected with root canal therapy or our simple surgical procedures.

Occasionally, the majority of your tooth is healthy, but the root is regularly causing problems. When this is the case, Dr. Stuart may recommend removing the root and leaving the crown.
This is a very successful and highly predictable surgical procedure.
Another alternative is to simply divide a mandibular (lower) molar in half, retaining one of the roots while sacrificing the other.
When examining your tooth, Dr. Stuart will explain the ideal solution for your situation.
This procedure entails extracting a tooth from its original site to place it in the original position of the missing tooth; in other words, moving one tooth from one location to another.
The tooth can be carefully placed by Dr. Stuart if it is a post-extraction socket or a surgically prepared socket. The natural tooth will then reconnect with the bone for a more stable and long-lasting solution.
I had a root canal retreatment from a bad resin that had dissolved. Dr. Stuart is amazing and fixed it! The team is so friendly. I highly recommend this place.
